CAPSO Research Congress
Cebu Association of Political Science Organizations) is an annual conference in Cebu where students from participating universities present and discuss various research related to the discipline of Political Science. This varies from law, public administration, international studies, political economics and other related fields.
The studio explored the idea to position the conference as engaging, inviting, less intimidating, and more inclusive. This prompted us to create a playful, bold, flexible, and lively visual identity. We utilized simple shapes, patterns, and bright colors. Completely deviating from the usual visual elements of an academic research conference.
In designing the main logomark, we based it around a Venn Diagram. This diagram is used to compare and contrast two or more concepts. This is usually used in visualizing different school of thoughts or concepts in Political Science.
We started to explore different forms as we deconstruct the diagram. We simplified its shapes, making it more geometric and balance. As we continue to study these forms, we were able to come up with shapes imitating the letters C, R, and C. The small circle stands as the teardrop terminal of letter r.
We were able to come up an abstract logomark of the abbreviation of the conference.
We started to build the visual elements from the mark we created. We also took inspiration from graphic elements of Bauhaus. These symbols, which also forms as pattern, represent key topics or sub-discipline under the scope of Political Science.
These visual elements will be used in conference materials and collateral.
Guided by the concept of creating a visual identity that is more inclusive, we made a palette that is bright, and with high saturation to emphasize energy and excitement.
Violet is used as the dominant colors as it represents wisdom, dignity, and creativity.
